Make the most of your pet’s care.

Pathology (Labs)

Our in-house lab allows our doctors to look within your pet to gain a more complete picture of their health. These tests are an important tool in diagnosing, but also in establishing a baseline for your pet yearly.

  • Chemistry Panels - Assess kidney and liver function

  • CBC (Complete Blood Count) - Checks for infection, dehydration, and anemia

  • Snap Tests – Detects heartworm disease, pancreatitis, FIV and Feline Leukemia, and Parvo virus

  • Urinalysis with Sedimentation – Detects urinary tract infections, urinary crystals/stones, and secondary indicator of kidney function

We also have a full-service outside lab that we utilize for more in-depth diagnostics such as thyroid testing, endocrine disease testing, and fecal analysis to check for intestinal parasites.

Dentistry & Oral Surgery

Dental (or periodontal) disease is the most frequently diagnosed health problem in pets. Common signs of dental disease include:

• Yellow or brown buildup (tartar) on the teeth

• Red, swollen, or bleeding gums

• Bad breath

• Excessive drooling

• Changes in eating or chewing habits

• Pawing at the face

During your pet’s dental exam, the veterinarian will assess the teeth and gums to determine your pet’s dental needs, whether it be dental chews/treats or a dental cleaning.

Pet dental cleanings are performed under general anesthesia, with the latest surgical monitoring. Our veterinary dental specialists will probe all teeth and are able to perform extractions if necessary.

Ultrasonography

Ultrasonography (also called ultrasound or sonography) is a noninvasive, pain-free procedure the veterinarian may use to examine a pet’s internal organs and other structures inside the body.

It can be used to evaluate the animal’s heart, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, and bladder; to detect fluid, cysts, tumors, or abscesses, and to confirm pregnancy or monitor an ongoing pregnancy.

We may use this imaging technique in conjunction with radiography (x-rays) and other diagnostic methods to ensure a proper diagnosis. Interpretation of ultrasound images requires great skill on the part of the clinician.

Radiology (X-Rays)

In some cases, radiographs (x-rays) may be necessary to assist our doctors in making a diagnosis or ruling out causes of disease. X-rays provide valuable information about a pet’s bones, gastrointestinal tract (stomach, intestines, and colon), respiratory tract (lungs), heart, and genitourinary system (bladder, prostate).

We are proud to offer radiograph services at our veterinary medical center, which allows us to provide you with quicker diagnosis for your pet.

Behavioral Counseling

If you’re concerned about or bothered by an aspect of your pet’s behavior, we can help. We partner with local experts who can work with pet parents to help stop or change unwanted behavior. Many aggressive, fearful, or inappropriate behaviors in dogs and cats can be modified through a combination of desensitization and counter-conditioningcounterconditioning.

These techniques can have dramatic results when applied properly. In some cases, medication can also help. Contact us for an appointment if you’d like to consult about your pet’s behavior. We also offer Dog Obedience Training at our East Memphis and Germantown locations.

We recommend that healthy adult dogs and cats visit their vet at least once a year. Puppies, kittens, senior pets, and pets with health issues or illnesses may need more frequent checkups. Here at BrownDog Lodge Veterinary, we’ll work with you to ensure your pet receives preventative care tailored to their needs.
